About

Originally built in 1890 by Nelson Admiral Rhodes for his wife Sarah and their family, this distinguished home situated in Amherst, Nova Scotia still stands as one of the many testaments to the construction firm of Rhodes Curry & Co. The company also constructed many of the gorgeous brick, and sandstone structures that stand proudly around the town for visitors to admire and explore.

As you enter this grand old house you will be awestruck by the untouched woodwork that can be found throughout the home. From the wood encased entry way, to the grand staircase, with each new room you will find more of the rich heritage in the home. Five distinct fire places, with Italian marble inlays, picturesque cast throw plates with individual portraits stamped in them, and the ornate mantles that wrap themselves around to complete their beauty can be found within the walls of this magnificent structure. The unique turret with its curved windows gives a distinctive look to the second floor. The stained and colored glass that completes each of the more than 40 windows casts new and colored light to the rooms and the history and the craftsmanship that can be found with each new step.
